  • Google names 20 finalists for Google Play Indie Games Contest.
  • Bridge Constructor Portal, I Love Hue, and Bury Me, My Love all nominated.
  • Winner will be decided on February 13th in London, UK.

It’s no secret that the Google Play Store is a bit of a minefield when you’re looking for a new mobile game to sink your teeth into. The charts are usually filled with throwaway freebies riddled with in-app purchases and the “trending” section is always fairly hit and miss in terms of quality.

This past July, social casino games regularly made up a quarter of the top 20 highest-grossing apps in the Google Play Store, according to App Annie, a market analytics company.

Of course, the best way to keep up with new additions is Android Authority’s very own Android Apps Weekly series. But what if you’re after a hidden gem that’s nestled underneath all the fresh releases and the same-old Play Store suggestions?

FPS games (first person shooters) are among the most exciting game genres out there. It is one of the most popular genres ever. Additionally, a variety of high-value games have come from it, including Halo, …

If that’s you then you’re in luck as Google has announced the twenty finalists for this year’s Google Play Indie Games Contest.

The award show, set to be held in the UK on February 13th, celebrates the best games from indie developers and glancing over the yearly shortlist is always a great to discover creative, innovative titles.

Take last year’s winner, Reigns, for example. The medieval swipe-em-up by Nerial was a devilishly addictive game which enjoyed an even better sequel,Reigns: Her Majesty. Thankfully, this year’s list is full of equally great games.

I can personally vouch for text-message adventure Bury Me, My Love and puzzler I Love Hue, both of which are well worth your time and, in the former’s case, money. It’s also nice to see Bridge Constructor Portal getting a nod after the spin-off from Valve’s beloved puzzle-FPS game came out of nowhere in late 2017.

Each of the finalists have already won a paid trip to the contest in London, a Google Pixel 2 phone, and a dedicated slot in the Indie Games Contest collection on the Play Store for a month.

The eventual winner, which will be decided by judges from within Google and the mobile gaming industry, will net tickets to Google I/O 2018 (including paid travel) and GDC 2018, vouchers worth up to €150,000 for digital marketing and social media campaigns, and a free Google Home Mini.

There are several categories when it comes to gaming and one of the most popular categories in the world of gaming is open-world games. Unlike most other games, in the case of open-world games, you can travel to any part of the gaming world at any point in time which makes open-world games more fun and exciting compared to other games, where the sole intention is to complete the missions and progress. In open-world games, as well you will have to complete missions to get 100% completion but you have enough time in hand to accomplish the missions and enjoy the true charm of the game at the same time.

Open-world games are available for almost all the platforms and Android isn’t an exception to that as well. Like most other categories of games that are available for Android, you can also find a handful of open-world games that you can download on your Android handset and start enjoying. There are also a few popular open-world titles that are available for Android as well as the PC platform, and for many other console platforms. So, today I will talk about the top open-world games, both old and new that you can download on your Android handset and start playing right away. I will try to keep the list of games filled with free titles, but there can also be some paid games that you can download, and the experience of playing the paid games will likely be much better than that of most free ad-supported games.

So, without any further delay, let’s get started with the top 5 open-world games that you can download on your Android handset to enjoy playing them.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

The list will be incomplete if I don’t keep Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, aka. GTA San Andreas in the list of top open-world games for Android. If you have played this game in your childhood, you can cherish those wonderful memories of playing the game of GTA San Andreas with the Android game.

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

Available at around Rs. 180 or $2.3 on the Google Play Store, this game is worth purchasing if you are fond of playing open-world games, and is also a real GTA fan at the same time. This game is quite old, but you can still enjoy this game with far better graphics on your new Android handset and experience will be no way less than as it was when you played this game on your console or PC.

You can get all those old storyline missions and also the side missions in the GTA San Andreas game available for Android. You can also fight with the opponent gangs to be the top Gangster in the City. After you purchase a game from the Google Play Store, you can also get two online game-saving slots with the help of which you can pick the game up from any device signed in with the same Rockstar Games ID. Otherwise, the game can be played completely offline and this can be your best mate if you want to spend some quality time without going online.

Gangstar Vegas: World of Crime

Next up in the list is Gangstar Vegas: World of crime, which is yet another great open-world game, where you can find the complete independence of travelling in one of the biggest map available within the game, backed by amazing graphics and that is quite expected, as it is a game developed by the major game developer Gameloft. The city of Vegas does not need an introduction and in Gangstar Vegas: World of Crime, your intention is to become the top Gangster and enjoy the true thrill of being a criminal in the virtual world.

From stealing vehicles to shooting your opponents and other people with an assortment of weapons, Gangstar Vegas: World of Crime has everything that you will ever need from an open-world game that deals with Mafia and gangsters. Even though it is meant for mobile devices the landscapes are really outstanding and the controls are also quite intuitive and mobile-friendly, which makes this game worth trying out if you are a fan of playing open-world games. The game has every single element of an exciting open-world game, which eventually makes the gameplay more fun.

Six-Guns: Gang Showdown

Six-Guns by Gameloft is an old title available on the Google Play Store for Android which presents the open-world scenario in a different way rather than most other open-world games, that features modernity.

The game of Six-Guns: Gang Showdown features a third-person shooting adventure and has a wonderful storyline and you will have to explore wild demography to kill other bandits or others who come on the way. The game comes with some wonderful weapons and presently there is also a multiplayer mode which can be equally thrilling.

Play

You will have to travel through some breathtaking sceneries in Arizona and the complete game is filled with exciting events and challenges which will make you more addicted to the game to explore something new every single time you open it. The game is actually based on the past world where you will have to travel on horseback to fight robbers and different types of enemies that come with some antique weapons which make the game it different from most other open-world games and can be rather hard to have control over, which eventually makes a game more and more exciting. Just try out Six-Guns: Gang Showdown and you will never be disappointed being an open-world game fan.

Minecraft

If you love to keep yourself informed about technology, Minecraft is the game that you have definitely heard of and it is one of the best and simple open-world games that you can try. Minecraft is all about building something new and taking your creativity to a whole new level with square blocks. Don’t find it interesting! Just try the game once. The final one in the list is Payback 2: The Battle Sandbox which is an RPG game even after featuring the open one atmosphere, which is present in most other games. Unlike most other open-world games, Payback 2: The Battle Sandbox too is a multiplayer game, where you can also build your own team to fight the opponents, which makes it both open-world and action game at the same time. You can tackle the enemies within the game in a number of ways, which include some regular weapons and you can also be a part of gang battles where you can have your own particular strategy to win, which makes the game a versatile one.

If you go search for open-world games on the Google Play Store, you will be flooded with a number of results, however, most of them, if not all is crap. When you are playing some open-world game, you should feel like you are actually travelling around the world, and that’s where the games which I have mentioned here scored the maximum points. There are also additional versions of most games, which I have mentioned here like Grand Theft Auto and you can also find Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, Liberty City Stories on the Google Play Store and when it comes to Gangstar Vegas also download the Gangstar New Orleans game.
